Alan Rubio

Alan Rubio is a choreographer and performer based in Douglas, AZ who began teaching at the age of 17 with a focus on ballet, contemporary, modern, and jazz. As the lead choreographer at BB Danceur Academy, Alan’s aesthetic reflects his appreciation for classical forms and techniques but also challenges Western conventions by the experimenting and fusing multiple styles in one piece. Growing up in a household of all females Alan’s feminist views make their way into his choreography with the goal of declaring alternative approaches to gender roles in dance and also empowering those who present his choreography to an audience. In 2018 Alan participated as one of the lead choreographers in Shared Spaces, a binational performance event on the border between Douglas, AZ and Agua Prieta, SON as part of the 2018 Binational Arts Residency featuring Ana Maria Alvarez.
