Niña Yhared

Niña Yhared is a performance artist and researcher based in Mexico City, whose work has been recognized nationally and internationally. She is a specialist in “Action Art”, as portrayed in her “performance” gallery “The House of the Girl”.
In 2017, she presented Via Baltic, her solo show at Pärnu Liinaagalerii and in Okapi Gallery in Tallin Estonia, in the context of Tallinn Music Week Festival. In 2016 she participated at MOMENT, konstfestival, Åland Mariehamn in Finland, Tallinn Art Week in PÄRNU Estonia and Riga Latvia, with the Festival Diverse Universe and the international group Non Grata.

In 2016 also the artist is doing the PhD. research Femenine Migrations. Blog of the performative creation of women artists in transit, in the global scene of the century XXI at the Faculty of Arts and Design, FAD-UNAM and in interchange with the Professor Dr. Gintautas Mažeikis, at the Social Political Theory Department, at Vytauto Didziojo University in Kaunas, Lithuania.

In October 2015 she performed The Map of my Skin at Menų svetainėje LARGO in Kaunas Lithuania with music of the singer Tamsaule / Eglė Gelažiūtė-Pranevičienė and the collaboration of the artists Lina Saveikytė and Eglė Tuinylaitė.

In August 2015 she was invited to participate in the Alytus Psychic Strike Biennial: REVOLUTIONARY ANIMISM & FURTHER REPROLETARIAZATION OF THE PSYCHIC WORK in Alytus Art School, Alytus, Lithuania. She also presented her new series The Map of my Skin invited by the international group Non Grata from Estonia at the nomadic and european Festival Diverse Universe 2015, in the Baltic Countries, Bulgaria and Greece. In 2014 she presented the new series Transhumance Skin with Non Grata at the 15th Open International Performance Art Festival and the Yuan Art Museum in Beijing, China. She also participated in the Diverse Universe, Nordic Performance Spring! Festival, with Non Grata, along with performing at the Month of Performance Art-Berlin, 2014 and in multiple performance art festivals in Denmark, Sweden, Finland, and Estonia.

In 2013 she presented Migrant Skin at several festivals: Performia 1, Zones Contemporary Art Fair, the International Performance Art Festival in Miami, the MEXTRANYC! Grace Space in Brooklyn, and at the Gray Exhibitions Space, in Kingston, New York. She also performed, The Skin Tales after an invitation by the Panoply Performance Laboratory, New York, USA and at the Latitude Festival 32º N / 55º S, as a part of the Month of Performance Art-Berlin (MPA-B). Finally, she performed The History of my Skin at Brooklyn International Performance Art Festival, BIPAF in NEXUSURNEXUS program in New York.

Niña Yhared has acted in over 200 performances in México, the United States, Spain, the United Kingdom, and Argentina. She earned her BA in Visual Arts at the School of Painting, Sculpture and Engraving “La Esmeralda”, at the Mexican Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes. She holds a Master’s Degree (MFA) in Visual Arts at Faculty of Arts and Design from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. She is currently completing her PhD in Visual Arts at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México.
